Posted By: FOECanadaOrg Comments Off on Where now for climate justice? FoEI’s post-Durban analysis

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA, December 13, 2011 — The UN climate talks in Durban were a failure and take the world a significant step back by further undermining an already flawed, inadequate multilateral system that is supposed to address the climate crisis, according to Friends of the Earth International.

Your Giving Tuesday support makes an impact! Your Your Giving Tuesday support makes an impact!

Your donation will ensure our work continues, on the ground, in gardens and farms for the Bee Cause, in courts to combat climate change and in kitchens and classrooms across Canada to halt plastic pollution.

The Friends of the Earth team is working hard to protect bees, birds, butterflies and babies from harmful pesticides, and we continue the fight to ban bee-toxic pesticides. We’re inspiring young people and their families across Canada to ditch plastic pollution and support Canadian leadership for a new global treaty to address the life cycle of plastic pollution.

Our work has impact – it helps to set precedents in our courts for ensuring a safe, healthy environment for all of us, it holds polluters accountable, it empowers you to impact important government decisions like making polluters pay for their greenhouse gas emissions and it educates the public on important matters like the huge value in saving wild, native bees.

🔥 Smoke from wildfires is not the only source o 🔥 Smoke from wildfires is not the only source of air pollution threatening the health of Canadians. According to Health Canada, diesel emissions in major cities and along transportation corridors are a major health threat to Canadians.

Doctors and environment groups are calling for federal action on truck pollution, saying the government could save thousands of lives by closing federal loopholes for highly polluting heavy trucks.

@cape_doctors and Friends of the Earth Canada, represented by @ecojustice_ca, have petitioned the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development to investigate what the federal government is doing to curb diesel emissions.

💚✨ After more than two months, Maya's Plastic 💚✨ After more than two months, Maya's Plastic Pollution Campaign has finally come to a close! Over 2,400 individuals across Canada pledged to combat plastic pollution, including over 68 classrooms, and THOUSANDS of plastic price look-up stickers (PLUs) were kept out of our wastewater and composting facilities. Thank you to everyone who participated!

💪 The fight doesn't stop here. We demand greater action from our politicians on plastic pollution, and we'll keep pushing until Canada's single-use plastic ban includes plastic PLUs.

👂 We’d also love to hear your advice on which plastic products need to be banned and which companies should be making switches from plastic to certified compostable products and packaging. Let us know in the comments below!
