On Wednesday 26 May a Dutch court in The Hague will give judgment in the Climate Case against Shell brought by Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie), 17,000 co-plaintiffs and 6 other organisations (Note1).

This case is unique: if successful, this will be the first legal judgment ordering a polluting transnational corporation to reduce its emissions in line with global climate goals.

Friends of the Earth Netherlands is demanding that Shell’s global business operations must emit 45% less CO2 by 2030. The outcome of the case is expected to impact climate policy and corporate accountability globally.
