Statement: Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change

Ottawa, December 9th, 2016

The Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change announced today is an historic step in the fight to combat climate change. All Canadians should rejoice in finally coming together on the most critical issue of our time.

Yes, the framework has flaws and fossil fuels will continue to dominate the climate debate, but today is a day to celebrate. After 25 years of work by scientists, environmentalists, First Nations and government officials, often in the face of strong opposition from powerful influential industry leaders, Canada has a national framework for the first time.

Now the work begins, proclamations and announcements alone won’t solve climate change. We need years of hard work and innovation.

Friends of the Earth will pause to celebrate for a moment before rejoining the struggle for climate justice.

Yours truly,
