Friends of the Earth Canada stands on guard for Mother Earth and her people — taking action to confront polluters, holding governments to account for their promises and insisting they enforce laws.
We insist that each and every resident of Canada deserves a clean, safe environment and can exercise his or her environmental rights to make it so.
We stand in solidarity with vulnerable people and communities to confront the impacts of climate change and toxic pollution.
Friends of the Earth Canada (FoE) has grown from a small group of volunteers in 1978 to one of the country’s most important voices speaking out on environmental issues. We are affiliated with the world’s largest grassroots environmental network — Friends of the Earth International — which has 75 national member groups and some 5,000 local activist groups on every continent.
Our Mission
Friends of the Earth provides a voice for the environment, nationally and internationally, working with others to inspire the renewal of our communities and the earth, through research, education and advocacy.
Our Values
Friends of the Earth believes that a healthy environment is the basis for our economic and social well-being. Friends of the Earth endorses the “precautionary” and “polluter pays” principles. Characterized by multi-stakeholder involvement and sound science, Friends of the Earth’s work is oriented towards long-term solutions. Friends of the Earth supports democratic processes and is politically neutral.
The environment includes people. This human dimension must be an integral part of environmental solutions.
Achieving Our Goals
Throughout the past two decades, Friends of the Earth Canada has been committed to working towards a sustainable global future through:
-
- Advancing education on the subject of protection of the environment and the advancement of sustainability
- Undertaking activities that will preserve ecosystem health, restore or preserve biodiversity, or mitigate climate change
- Upholding the administration and enforcement of international environmental laws including environmental issues, so as to ensure environmental justice for all people, regardless of race, colour, national origin, or income
